FAQ's

What is your style of photography?  I shoot natural light lifestyle and portrait photography.   Natural light means most of my sessions are outdoors in the prettiest light of the day, usually an hour or so before sunset.  The exception to this is when I have a newborn session and most of those usually take place in the home during the middle of the day, when the light comes through the windows.

What do you mean by lifestyle photography?   I love to capture my clients natural, which means I won't ever tell you to "say cheese" and often times, will have you interacting with each other and not necessarily posing for the camera.  This is great for young children who rarely hold still for longer than 2 minutes! That being said, many clients also like the classic poses for what I like to call "grandparent gifts", so I strive to capture a good mix of both lifestyle and portrait images.

What should we wear?  You should always dress in attire that reflects your personality.  If your family isn't a formal family, dressing them in black tie and ball gowns may just make them feel awkward.  My other important tip is to coordinate but don't match.  In other words, nix the entire family in a white shirt and blue jeans!  One of my absolute favorite photographers, Paint the Moon, has one of the BEST styling guides ever.  If you need inspiration, check out this link.  http://paintthemoon.net/blog/2013/03/wear-clothing-tips-children-family-photo-sessions-paint-moon-photoshop-actions/

Where do you shoot? My sessions will always be outdoors in natural lighting.  If you have a location in mind, I would love to photograph you there. However, if you need a little inspiration, I have many locations I can suggest.

What happens after the session? Images take about a week to edit and upload to your private gallery.  You will be able to download your images directly from your gallery.  In addition, you will also be able to order prints and products from the same gallery from professional quality print houses.  I highly recommend using a professional print lab over chains like Walgreens, Costco, Shutterfly, etc.  While these locations are cheaper, you will see a big difference in the print quality and color from a professional print house.  You wouldn't buy a quality steak and then cook it in the microwave.  Why would you want to cheapen the look of your family portraits by using a poor quality print lab.  If you have any questions on pro labs, please feel free to contact me!  In the meantime, Paint the Moon has a great link on showcasing the difference in prints.  http://paintthemoon.net/blog/2011/10/photoshop-actions-why-your-print-lab-is-so-important/

Where are you located and how do I contact you?  I am based in Palm Beach Gardens, FL and mainly shoot in this area and occasionally in Colorado ("like" www.facebook.com/leahhartmanphotography  for information on when I will be taking sessions in CO.)  You can contact me at [email protected] or message me on this site or through Facebook.
